Elastics for Pointe Shoes
As well as your pointe shoe ribbons, many dancers like elastics on their shoes as well, for extra security en pointe.
There are many different ways to sew on your elastics to your pointe shoes. Some dancers prefer a X elastic, which can be useful for hypermobile feet and ankles, some prefer an ankle strap to feel more security at the heel and some dancers like both!
One method is to measure your elastic around the ankle to the back of your heel, then cut and sew the elastic in to the back of the shoe. You can decide how deep in to the heel you want to sew it.
Be careful to place it at a safe distance apart so it doesn't interfere with your achilles tendon. Decide how far apart that gap is for you. Discuss with your teacher their thoughts on your elastic placement.
